A CASED 16-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'LEFAUCHEUX PATENT', no visible serial number,
circa 1860, with twist-iron 29 3/4in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'C. GUNTERMANN IN DUSSELDORF', the standing breech with a pair of removable inserts for conversion to percussion, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, a seated rabbit engraved behind the breech, borderline and scroll engraved back-action unsigned locks featuring a fox flushing a gamebird on the left and a doe in a woodland setting on the right, scroll engraved hammers with carved heads, walnut butt-stock with raised cheek-piece, scroll engraved heel-plate spur, the heel-plate with figure eight trap-door containing a pair of percussion converters, moulded horn cover to the trigger-guard tang, borderline and scroll engraved action with Lefaucheux swing under-lever, detachable scroll engraved iron fore-end and iron under-barrel clearing rod; COMPLETE WITH a mahogany storage case, re-line in pale velvet and containing a number of period accessories including a measure, flask, caps and the tool used for conversion together with some later cleaning items
